“A simple and beautiful reminder that we only hear what we listen to.”
This is particularity true of social media where are perceptions are often populated by our feeds; yet our feeds are controlled by various algorithms designed to feed your perception. The challenge then is to reach out and seek others view points. Yet what occurs if we only drink from the cup of perception we’re spoon fed? Is that dangerous, yes! We must discipline ourselves to challenge what we think, seek others with differing views and dig deeper than the latest meme or comment. Our society is changing at a rapid pace, so is technology and science; yet it appears as if humans are getting more narrow minded in our tunnel vision. Increased judgement and less tolerance will not serve us well, but I digress.
Change is scary, yet holding onto beliefs without tossing them out in the fresh air and sunshine and taking them for a spin wont work either.
What is in your cup? Have you shaken the tree, reached out, found new sources and found common round lately? I challenge you to hear what is being said versus your perception, listen closely for the words have all been said; yet even in their silence I know you can hear them.
4 Step Challenge
- Hear what your listening to; even differing opinions.
- Change the channel, hear new music, a new voice and listen.
- Leave all your baggage in the trunk of the car; Open your mind and listen from a neutral place….Assume it is not personal, its not negative nor positive just listen to what is being said.
- When people are rude, nasty or just plain insulting just turn them off, stop listening.
We’re all guilty of tuning people out, shutting down…After all who wants to hear a nag, not I. Nor do I listen when people insult me. The 4th step is learn when to listen and sometimes its time to switch off the volume and breathe.
