Simple, their Voice matters. Some would say it isn’t important for farmers and agriculture to speak out. That they should be farming and I would agree for the most part. If agriculture and farmers are not part of the conversation then others will speak for them. Often stating myths and perpetuating fallacies about farming that need to be stopped. Farmers are members of our community and experts in their fields and their voice, thoughts and experience matter. Yesterday I spoke to a someone who said he was trying to think if he had something to share on another agvocates blog here in Hawaii… I said share your story, but its more than that. We are each our own personal brand, this brand involves your personality, what you do and your passions. It does not mean your speaking for your employer, but that must be considered.
How do you know if you have something to share? We all have a story from the Chef at Whole Foods to the Community Affairs Representative for Monsanto Hawaii. Who are you and what are your skills? What is your passion?
Do you read reports on agriculture all day, maybe you review pesticide regulation like this dude from CropLife America who has a Blog called Pesticide Guy, short and sweet and he is sharing his story and information. Effectively using his knowledge to serve multiple purposes. Maybe you grow corn, like soccer and love good wine! Whatever it is you do or grow, you have something to share with the world and Hawaii. Use your passion and knowledge to create a blog that reflects you, your personality and your story. I know how hard it is, it was way easier for me to ghost blog for brands versus myself. In fact I still struggle with it, it’s not as easy as it seems. Although like riding a bike once you get the hang of it its really not to hard and the plus side is you get to write your story. You own and control the real estate. Squatters and haters can be evicted and it’s your authentic voice sharing first hand, authentic information to amplify agriculture’s voice.
